Tigray international Diaspora festival kicks off

Addis Ababa, 1 August 2014 (WIC) - The Tigray International Diaspora Festival opened on Thursday at the conference hall of the Martyrs' Monument of Tigray in Mekele town.   

Chief administrator of the state, Abay Woldu, indicated in his opening remarks that investment by members of the Diaspora in the state has hit 1.7B Birr capital.   

The investors are engaged in agriculture, industry, construction, hotel and tourism, among others.   

The 255 projects launched by members of the Diaspora in the state have created over 5,000 jobs, he added.   

The festival is aimed to showcase the ongoing development endeavor in the state and motivate members of the Diaspora to be an active part of it.

More than 3,000 members of the Diaspora from North America, Europe and other continents are taking part in the festival. (ERTA)
