Addis dwellers vow to bolster support for GERD

Addis Ababa, 16 July 2014 (WIC) – Residents of Addis Ababa have vowed to bolster their support for the construction of the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD).

The residents told WIC that they would provide all the necessary financial and technical support until the completion of the multibillion-dollar dam.

“In addition to purchasing bonds, I want to participate in the construction activities of the dam,” a resident called Shemsedin Gutemo, said.

Almaz Kebede, a civil servant, said she has already pledged a month’s salary to buy bonds for the dam. “I’m also ready to provide the necessary support in the future,” she added.

Another resident Melkamu Fantahun said that his is purchasing bonds for the third time. “I will buy bonds until the finishing point of the dam,” he said.

Mulu Ydegom, a resident around Cherkos sub-city, said she would provide support until the dam is declared complete.

According to her, the dam is crucial to improve the livelihoods of the people and build image of the country.

On top of expressing readiness to provide support, the residents urged the public to join hands with the government for the successful completion of the dam.
