MoFA launches new Gender Mainstreaming Manual
Addis Ababa, 12 July 2014 (WIC) - At a conference organized by the Women Affairs Directorate of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) on Thursday at Elili hotel in Addis Ababa, the Ministry launched a new Gender Mainstreaming and Operational Manual.
Addressing the conference, State Minister Dewano Kedir said gender mainstreaming was inextricably linked to all other development endeavors.
He emphasized that at a national level the efforts made to empower women had registered encouraging results.
He said the Ministry was working on increasing representation of women and increasing capacity. To increase the number of women engaged in diplomacy, he said, the Ministry’s intake, through its Foreign Service Training Institute, had recruited more than 40% young women.
At the launch of the Manual, it was made clear that it would enhance female participation in the country’s international relations and diplomatic activities.
With regard to implementation, an action plan has been prepared. This will now be incorporated in the working plans of both the Head Office and of all Overseas Missions. (MoFA)
