Ambassador Berhane receives UN women representative to Ethiopia, AU and UNECA

Addis Ababa, 3 July 2014 (WIC) - State Minister Ambassador Berhane Gebre-Christos held discussions with the UN Women representative to Ethiopia, AU and UNECA, Mrs. Letty Chiwara, on Wednesday (July 2).
Ambassador Berhane welcomed the newly appointed UN women representative and noted that Ethiopia greatly valued its relations with UN agencies and the UN system in general.

He expressed appreciation for all the efforts being exerted by the UN Women country Office in promoting and coordinating gender equality, requesting, the UN Women to scale-up its support for the government’s efforts to address the challenges in this area.

He further underlined the importance the government of Ethiopia attaches to the empowerment of women and gender equality. On her part, Mrs. Chiwara expressed her gratitude to the government of Ethiopia to the support it has attributed to UN-Women since its establishment.

Concerning gender equality and women empowerment, she assured that UN- Women will support Ethiopian government in its endeavor to reach the goals set in the Growth and Transformation Plan (GTP) and its Constitution.
During the meeting, a host country agreement was signed by State Minister Ambassador Berhane Gebre-Christos and. Letty Chiwara. (MoFA)
