Addis Ababa, 19 June 2014 (WIC) - Mekelle University (MU) announced that it is going to launch a home-grown PhD in Historical Anthropology.

The announcement came at a national consultative workshop on the PHD curriculum in Historical Anthropology organized by Mekelle University, where various famous international and Ethiopian scholars discussed details of the need of the program.

This PhD program focuses on a combination of historical and cultural studies.

The program will truly be needed for a PhD in Historical Anthropology so that Ethiopia and the region can preserve their rich histories and promote their tourism sectors and to create vas job opportunities.

In Ethiopia, there is only one PhD program in history and one in social anthropology so far, and no program, which combines the methodologies and advantages of both.
