Army ready to thwart efforts of anti-dev't forces
Gambella, 2 June 2014 (WIC) –The 12th division of the Ethiopian National Defense Force (ENDF) expressed its readiness to thwart efforts of anti-development forces.
Members of the 12th division of ENDF observed the 23rd anniversary of May 28 Victory Day, which marks the downfall of the dictatorial Derg regime in 1991, through panel discussion.
“We are ready to curb efforts of anti-peace and development forces and maintain the existing durable peace so that the renaissance of the country will be realized,” members of the division said at the discussion.
In a related development, Chief Administrator of Gambella Regional State, Gatluk Tut, praised the remarkable changes registered in the socio-economic sectors.
Gatluk made the remark at a panel discussion organized to observe the 23rd anniversary of May 28 Victory Day.
May 28 is a historic day which ensured the rights and benefits of all Ethiopians and the people of Gambella state, he said.
The road, telecommunication and electricity facilities built during the past 23 years have been expediting the economic growth of the state, he said.
Deputy Chief Administrator of the regional state, Engineer Ulero Opiyew, on the occasion presented the all-round successes attained during the past 23 years.
He said health service coverage in the regional state has reached to 79 per cent following the construction of 29 health centers and 132 health posts. Education coverage has also risen to 79.5 per cent.
He said over 37,000 households are currently living at 94 villages built through the villagization program, a plan which the government began to bring socioeconomic and cultural transformation of the people of Gambella.
