Addis Ababa, 30 May 2014 (WIC) - Uganda hailed Ethiopia for supporting the restoration of peace in Somalia and South Sudan, New Vision reported.

The commendation was made by the state minister for water Betty Bigombe at celebrations to mark 23rd anniversary of the Ethiopia’s regime at Sheraton.

After the revolution, the Ethiopia government ushered in change in the country’s social, economic  and political trends, the minister noted.

“But unless we team up as blocks like EAC, COMESA and IGAD, development will remain a distant dream on our continent. We hope the on-going peace talks (South Sudan conflict) will be fruitful.”

Praising the existing relations between the two countries, Ethiopia’s ambassador to Uganda, Degefe Bula Wakjira told guests that, it is time for African states to share experiences if challenges faced on the continent are to be braved.

“Ethiopia cannot wait any longer to exploit existing opportunities to create jobs, boost incomes and make the world a better place for her citizens,” said Wakjira.

“Poverty, famine, disease and wars should stop being the image of Africa. The more reason one of Africa’s biggest dam is being built in Ethiopia, he added

The aim is to protect the environment by stopping the dependence on firewood by the populace.

“I call upon Uganda traders to venture into Ethiopia for leather products and lots of investment opportunities,” said Wakjira.

Wakjira also said tourists have a variety of attractions comprising religious, cultural, historical and geographical features
