Addis Ababa, 29 May 2014 (WIC) – Science and Technology Minister Demitu Hambissa said the current generation has the responsibility to safeguard the existing peace and work hard to enhance its benefit.

In an interview with WIC in connection with 23rd anniversary of May 28 Victory Day, she said that the existing generation, the youth in particular, must do with their full capacity to move the country out of poverty.

May 28 is a historic day for Ethiopians as it laid the foundation for the renaissance of the country, she said, adding “We need to stand in unity to enhance the development that Ethiopia has been registering in all spheres since the downfall of the Derg regime.”

The present generation has the responsibility to consolidate the successes registered during the past 23 years in the political, socio-economic, democracy and other development sectors.

Ethiopia is on the verge of finalizing the first five-year Growth and Transformation Plan (GTP) and beginning the second phase five-year plan. Accordingly, a lot is expected from the public for its success, she said.

Demitu finally called on the people of Ethiopia to merge their efforts for the success of the renaissance of the country by fighting against anti-peace forces trying to mislead the public by disseminating false propaganda.
