Locust invasion would not pose any threat: MoA

Addis Ababa, 15 May 2014 (WIC) – The swarm of locusts that have invaded some parts of Addis Ababa yesterday would not pose any threat, the Ministry of Agriculture (MoA) said.
Some groups of locust were seen flying in Addis yesterday in areas commonly Known as Kotebe, CMS, Megenagna, British Embassy, Stadium and other parts of the city at about 5pm local time.
“The invasion occurred while the locusts are flying in search of sand to lay eggs,” Crop Protection Directorate Director at MoA, Hiwot Lemma, said.
According to her, the locust are expected to leave Addis Ababa today until 1 PM local time in search of dry areas, she said.
