First phase Tendaho sugar factory to enter production this month

Addis Ababa, 9 May 2014 (WIC) - The first phase of Tendaho sugar factory will commence sugar production this month, according to the Ethiopian Sugar Corporation.
Corporation Director General, Shiferaw Jarso, told WIC the factory with a capacity to grind 13, 000 tonnes of sugarcane per day will go operational within the coming 3 weeks.
The second phase of the factory will launch production in February next year, he said. 
He further said Beles 1 and 2, Kuraz 1, Kessem sugar factories are expected to enter production next year.
The Corporation would achieve 70 per cent of its Growth and Transformation Plan (GTP) through commencing sugar production in most of the sugar factories under construction.
According to the Shiferaw, residents around the sugar factories are benefiting from the road, school, health centers and other infrastructural facilities built in connection with the sugar plants.
