The Order of the Rising Sun, Gold and Silver Star for Ambassador Mahdi

Addis Ababa, 29 April 2014 (WIC) - The Government of Japan announced that it has decided to bestow upon Ambassador Mahdi Ahmed, former Ambassador of Ethiopia to Japan, the Order of the Rising Sun, Gold and Silver Star.   

According to a statement the Embassy of Japan sent to WIC today, the Order is being awarded to Ambassador Mahdi for his contribution to further enhance the overall relations between the government and people of the two friendly countries.
It is indeed a recognition for his relentless efforts in promoting friendship and mutual understanding between Japan and Ethiopia.   

The Prime Minister of Japan, Shinzo Abe will present the Order and Certificate to Ambassador Mahdi, who will be given an audience with His Majesty the Emperor in Tokyo, Japan at the beginning of May 2014. A ceremony will be held in Ethiopia at a later date.   

Ambassador Mahdi is a renowned Ethiopian diplomat who served as Ethiopia's long serving Ambassador to Japan from 1996 to 2002. He was also a special advisor to the Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Ethiopia from 2010 to 2013. Currently, he is the Chairman of the Japan Ethiopia Alumni Society (JEAS).
