Ethiopian community in China renews support to GERD

Addis Ababa, 16 April 2014 (WIC) - Members of the Ethiopian Community residing in and around Guangzhou Province marked the third anniversary of the launch of the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD) in a ceremony held on 5 April 2014. 

Melaku Legesse, the Ethiopian Consul General in Guangzhou, briefed the participants on the current status of the construction of the dam.

On the occasion, members of the community reaffirmed their strong support and vowed to mobilize more resources to see through the completion of the mega project. The participants also pledged to buy a bond worth USD 16,000.

The Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam is one of the biggest infrastructure development projects in Ethiopia but unmatched in terms of its meaning as a symbol of national pride and unity.
