Dr. Tedros meets with Ethiopian students in KU-Lueven

Addis Ababa, 4 April 2014 (WIC) – Foreign Affairs Minister Dr. Tedros Adhanom spoke to Ethiopian students in KU-Lueven on Tuesday (April 1, 2014) following discussions with Rectors of the university.
More than 40 Ethiopian students converged to the meeting with Dr. Tedros Adhanom. The meeting started with a brief talk by the Foreign Minister on economic, political and social matters.
Dr. Tedros in his remarks noted that the growth trajectory of Ethiopia’s remains positive with an average growth of 9.7% in the past year and a drop in inflation rate to single digit, all indicative of stable macro economy of the country.
He explained to the students that the development of the ten sugar development projects and fertilizer factory project is going well as per the time frame of the GTP. In regard to roads construction to 80% of the goals set by the GTP are so far .
He also explained the massive development works carried out in fiber optics, telecom infrastructure and energy and development.     

In relation to the flagship project the GERD, he said it will have greater impact in realizing regional integration through power generation.
He said “Ethiopia believes that its development cannot be achieved in isolation “adding that this belief is supplemented by a strong view that partnership and robust economic integration contributes to peace and stability of the entire region.
He reiterated Ethiopia’s firm position that equitable and reasonable utilization of the Nile waters is the only way that can serve the interest of all riparian countries.
He also noted that any attempt to obstruction of the GERD is bound to fail as the project is fully financed by the people and government of Ethiopia. In response to questions forwarded by the students, he explained the efforts made in reversing the threat of illegal migration through the national committee to coordinate the campaign.
He said “reversing illegal migration requires change of attitude that one can make a livelihood through opportunities at home. “
He also commented on activities carried on to ensure quality of education through the quality assurance package. (MoFA)
