Ministry awards best performing organizations, individuals
Addis Ababa, 24 March 2014 (WIC) - The Ministry of Water, Irrigation and Energy awarded best performing organizations and individuals in hygiene, sanitation, water supply, consultancy and alternative energy technology in connection with World Water Day.
Marking the 22nd World Water Day with the theme: “ Water and Energy” yesterday, the Ministry awarded medal, trophy and certificates for individuals and organizations including female farmers, pastorals, national and international experts who have dedicated their knowledge, time and wealth for the development of the sector.
Most individuals who received medals are from states selected for educating the society about hygiene and sanitation thereby bringing about tangible results.
Minister Alemayehu Tegenu on the occasion said that this year's World Water Day is special for Ethiopia since the country is striving to use its water resource for economic development particularly power generation.
Established in 1993 by the United Nations General Assembly, World Water Day is an annual international celebration held to recognize the importance of clean water and raise awareness of the need for sustainable water solutions and resources. (EH)
