Premier confreres with Jubalan president, Israeli Minister
Addis Ababa, 7 March 2014 (WIC) - Prime Minister Hailemariam Desalegn on Thursday conferred with Israel Agriculture and Rural Development Minister Yair Shamir and Jubaland President, Sheikh Ahmed Mohamed Islam on issues of common interest.
Accordingly, the Premier conferred with Jubalan President on ways of building lasting peace in Somalia. During the discussion, the President urged Ethiopia to strengthen support for the efforts in building lasting peace in Somalia.
The President commended Ethiopia's efforts in ousting the east African Al-Qaeda affiliate, al-Shabaab in collaboration with the Inter-Governmental Authority on Development (IGAD).
Ethiopia will play major role in helping Somalia implement federalism system, the president said.
The Premier on his part affirmed Ethiopia's commitment to support peace building efforts in Somalia, according to a high level official who attended the meeting.
Similarly, Hailemariam has conferred with the Israeli Minister Yair Shamir on boosting cooperation in various areas.
The government of Israel supports Ethiopia's efforts in building lasting peace in Somalia and South Sudan.
Israel will work to create consensus between Ethiopian and Egypt on the construction of the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam, according to a high level official who attended the meeting.
