Addis Ababa, 4 March 2014 (WIC) - The International Network for Bamboo and Rattan (INBAR) Working Group met to deliberate on the draft Rules of Procedure for the INBAR Council, on Friday, February 28, at the Headquarters of the organization in Beijing.

Twenty-seven of the thirty-nine INBAR member states were represented in the meeting.

Ambassador Tesfaye Yilma, Deputy Head of the Ethiopian Embassy in Beijing, chaired the meeting representing the current INBAR Council Chair. The Ethiopian Ministry of Agriculture is Chairing the Council since 2013. The Council Chair rotates every two years.

The Working Group was established in November last year by the 8th session of INBAR Council meeting to draft Rules of Procedure for the Council.

The draft Rules of Procedure will eventually be presented for final decision at the 9th INBAR Council meeting scheduled to be held in Addis Ababa in November this year.

Ethiopia, endowed with the largest bamboo forest in Africa, joined INBAR in 2002 and hosts one of the two Regional offices of INBAR in Africa.

The Working Group was also briefed on the preparation for the Addis Ababa meeting, discussed on the Report of the 16th INBAR Board Meeting and exchanged views on setting up Technical Advisory Committee on Bamboo and Rattan Standards.

The Working Group will meet again in May this year to further discuss and refine the draft Rules of Procedure. (aigaforum)
