Meeting discusses irregular migration, human trafficking
Addis Ababa, 19 February 2014 (WIC) - A meeting organized by Government Communication Affairs Office to discuss irregular migration and create awareness on ways of preventing irregular migration and human trafficking was held at Capital Hotel here yesterday.
Opening the meeting, Government Communication Affairs Office State Minister Belete Ewnetu said that the government is working aggressively to make awareness creation within the society regarding the consequences of irregular migration, human trafficking and work with the society and other stakeholders to overcome the evils of human trafficking and irregular migration.
Various papers were presented on the causes and factors of irregular human trafficking, measures to be taken, prosecution, protection, participation and prevention of irregular human migration and trafficking, the role of police and other stakeholders in human trafficking and smuggling, cooperation with neighbouring countries to tackle problems in the area.
According to the Ethiopian Herald, discussion was held focusing on the papers presented on the occasion.
The event was attended by participants drawn from civil society, residents, returnees, women league, youth league, civil servants and media professionals.
