Authority suspends two foreign doctors
Addis Ababa, January 1, 2014 (WIC) – Food, Medicine and Health Administration and Control Authority suspended two foreing doctors working in Ethiopia ‘without a license’.
Orthopedic Specialists Warant Fredrik, a Canadian, and Yurinikolaevich Aristov, a Russian, have been working in Addis Ababa at Myung Sung Christian Medical Center and Balcha Hospital, respectively.
The authority, established to control the quality of foods and medicines, is legally entitled to issue, renew, suspend and revoke license of health professionals and medicine practitioners.
Samson Abraham, the authority’s public relations and communications director, said the pair are suspended from providing any medical service in Ethiopia.
The authority has also suspended Zewdu Beze, an Ethiopian dermathologist and reproductive health specialist, for failing to renew license for over four years and for professional misconduct, Samson told WIC.
The authority has warned of an administrative and legal measures against any medical instituion found hiring these doctors.
