AU reiterated support to IGAD Ministerial mission (Dec 24, 2013)
Addis Ababa, December 25 (WIC) - The Chairperson of the Commission of the African Union, Dr. Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma, in a press release reiterated AU’s support to the efforts of the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of the IGAD to facilitate political dialogue involving the people and leaders of South Sudan.
The Chairperson commended the timely initiative taken by Ethiopian Prime Minister, Hailemariam Dessalegn, in his capacity as Chair of the Inter-Governmental Authority on Development (IGAD) to dispatch a ministerial delegation to Juba.
The delegation comprising Foreign Ministers and high level officials from Ethiopia, Djibouti, Kenya, Somalia, Sudan and Uganda as well as the AU Commissioner for Peace and Security and UN Special Representative to the AU concluded an emergency three-day visit to Juba during which they sought to secure an immediate end to hostilities in South Sudan and to facilitate a peaceful political dialogue among the protagonists in the current crisis.
