Authority penalizes 30 organizations for noise pollution
Addis Ababa, December 21 (WIC) - Addis Ababa City Administration Environmental Protection Authority penalized 30 organizations for causing noise pollution.
The measure will be welcomed by many city dwellers who complain that the law regulating noise pollution is not being implemented properly.
A revised bill that came into force eight years ago allows up to 55 decibel of noise during the day time and 45 decibel at night around residential places; and 65 decibel and 55 decibel respectively in business and market centers.
However, in the capital Addis Ababa most of residential houses, night clubs, religious institutions, music and video shops do not seem to be obeying the rule.
Coordinator of Environmental Awareness and Pollution Inspection Team with the Authority, Meseret Mengiste said the problem is compounded due to the mixed services that buildings in the city offer which hold back measures taken. (FBC)
