Addis Ababa, 2 August 2014 (WIC) - Special Representative of the Chairperson of the African Union Commission for Somalia, Honorable Lydia Wanyoto Mutende, has condemned the killing yesterday of Sheick Aden Madeer, a Member of the Federal Parliament of Somalia.

According to a press release African Union Mission in Somalia sent to WIC, Honorable Mutende said that the continuous assassination of MPs is heinous and inhuman attempt of undermining legislative progress in the country. She reiterated the African Union’s commitment to supporting the Federal Parliament of Somalia in furthering the aspirations of the Somali people.

“Such terrorist actions are in line with the stance and tactics of those who oppose political and socio-economic development in Somalia. As we mourn the death of a courageous and respected advocate of the Somali legislative principles, I want to commend all MPs for their resolve to contribute to the development of their country. I express my sincere condolences to the family and friends of Mr. Madeer,” she said.
