“Enjoying the fruits of May 28, we work diligently for the renaissance of Ethiopia,” PM Hailemariam

Addis Ababa, 28 May 2014 (WIC) – Prime Minister Hailmariam Dessalegn said that enjoying the fruits of May 28 achieved in the past twenty three years, the government and people of Ethiopia will work diligently to realize the renaissance of the country.

Speaking to the people celebrating the 23rd anniversary of May 28 Victory Day, Prime Minister Hailemariam Dessalegn said the nations, nationalities and peoples’ of Ethiopia have benefited from the efforts exerted so far to drive the country out of the quagmire of poverty.

He emphasized that a governance system that accommodates diversity, ensures religious freedom and equality, guarantees multi-party system has already established and strengthened in the country.
Ethiopian farmers have began pulling themselves out from traditional farming and capable of producing twice and three times a year using irrigation, which indicates the foundation of the bases for the renaissance of the rural, the Premier added.

The productivity has now risen to 250 million quintal per annum making Ethiopia become food  self-sufficient at national level, Prime Minister Hailemariam said, adding that the government along with the Ethiopian people will pay due attention and work day in day out to become food  self-sufficient at individual level.

Recalling Ethiopia’s being an exemplary for famine in Oxford Dictionary, development efforts of the past 23 years coerced those scholars to erase it and recognize Ethiopia as one of the fast economic development countries, which is a remarkable achievement, PM Hailemaeiam said.

In connection to the political space in the country, Prime Minister Hailemariam Dessalegn said the past four national elections witnessed the free, fair and democratic participations of political parties and the people.

As a result of the widening of the political space in the country, 90 political parties are running their political agendas currently, he added.

He promised that his government and party will work diligently to make the fifth national election peaceful, free, fair and democratic.

Senior government officials, leaders of various political parties, religious leaders, investors, intellectuals and residents of the Addis Ababa city are taking part in the celebration.
