Yekatit 11 laid foundation for peace, democracy, unity of Ethiopians: PM Hailemariam

Addis Ababa, 18 February 2014 (WIC) – Prime Minister Hailemariam Dessalegn said  Yekatit 11 is a day which laid the foundation for the prevailing peace, democracy and unity of nations, nationalities and peoples of Ethiopia.

Addressing the crowed at the 39th Anniversary of the founding of the Tigray People's Liberation Front (TPLF), colorfully celebrated today in Mekelle, the premier urged current generation to take active part in maintaining the prevailed peace and democracy.

The current generation should not forget even for a second to attain Ethiopia’s renaissance through taking active part in the ongoing development activities, he said.

He said Ethiopians in general and the people of Tigray in particular need to do their level best to realize former Prime Minister Meles Zenawi’s green economic strategy vision.

Tigray Regional State and Chairman of TPLF, Abay Woldu, on his behalf said that “We celebrate the day to remember the martyrs and to pay them due honor”.

The development participation and benefit of the people living in urban and rural areas is improving after the demise of the Derg regime, he said, adding notable changes are being registered in the areas of peace, democracy and good governance.

The people of Tigray should join hands and fight against anti- development and anti-democratic forces striving to separate the people form TPLF.

Abay finally urged the people of Tigray to struggle against corruption and rent-seeking mentality and contribute their share for the successful conduct of the upcoming elections.
