PM says success in justice sector a tribute to overall success
Addis Ababa, 6 February, 2014 (WIC) – Prime Minister Hailemariam Desalegn said the success and sustainability of the development in the country could be ensured if there is success in the justice sector.
Opening a national forum on justice and good governance, the premier said success in the justice sector could play a greater role not only to ascertain development plans of the country but also to realize good governance in other sectors.
The justice sector should, above all, integrate transparency and accountability in its day to day activity, the premier said, adding that it has to provide efficient and swift services to the public.
The national justice and good governance forum has been carried out since 2013 to improve the justice system in the country.
The report focuses on the challenges in the justice sector which include lack of skilled man power, shortage of inputs and lack of transparency and accountability within the sector, the premier said. Inadequate participation of the public is also identified as one weakness observed within the justice system.
He said the national justice and good governance forum is also tasked to find solutions on how to improve the justice system in the country.
Prime Minister Hailemariam also said that as the sector is vulnerable to rent seeking, consolidated effort among stakeholder is needed to ensure effective and swift services to the people.
