Harrar, May 23 (WIC) – The Harrari State Women’s Affairs Office disclosed that it attaches a special place to May 28 that ensured the equality, human and democratic rights of women.
Office Head, Hafiza Bedri, told a panel discussion here yesterday in connection with May 28 anniversary that May 28 is a historical day that ascertained the rights of all oppressed women.
The victory achieved on May 28 has freed all Ethiopian women from various forms of repressions and plights they had been experiencing during the previous regimes, the head stated.
Women in the county above all ensured their rights stipulated in the EFDRE Constitution during the past 17 years, Hafiza added.
A ministry in charge of following up only the causes women has been established, she said adding that the number of women both at federal and state council levels has also been steadily growing.
Similarly, Oromia Youth Association urged the youth to play leading role towards upholding the victories attained on May 28 through immense sacrifices.
Association Chairman, Alemayehu Tulu, told WIC that the youth should play a spearheading role in the ant-poverty struggle so as to sustain the peace, development, democracy and good governance which are the outcomes of the May 28.
The youth in particular should attach a special place to the day as they have reportedly been extricating themselves from unemployment and economic dependency taking advantage of the fertile ground created through may 28.
The Association has reportedly finalized preparations to mark the day through panel discussions and development works, it was learnt.
