Addis Ababa, May 17, 2008 (WIC) – Encouraging results have been registered through the activities undertaken by the National Coalition for Women against HIV/AIDS over the past five years, the Chairperson disclosed.
The Chairperson First Lady Azeb Mesfin said at the opening of the 3rd regular conference of the coalition here today that the coalition has registered tangible outcomes especially in the provision of care and support to people living with the virus involving women at all levels in the fight against the pandemic.
First Lady Azeb also called upon governmental and non-governmental partners to sustain their support so as to further enhance the outcomes the coalition has attained during the reported period.
The United Nations Development Program (UNDP) Resident Representative, Fidele Sarassoro, on his part said that the coalition has carried out successful works in collaboration with UNICEF, HAPCO, and UNFPA towards the prevention of HIV/AIDS and elimination of Harmful Traditional Practices (HTPs).
Sarassoro further pledged to extend the necessary financial and technical assistance for the coalition in the years to come.
The conference is expected to adopt the coalition's next five-year strategic plan, it was pointed out.
Representatives from the House of Peoples Representatives (HPR) and experts in the field are in attendance of the two–day workshop, it was learnt.
