Number of tourists visiting tourist attractions in SNNP State grows by more than double

Addis Ababa, May 13 (WIC) - The number of tourists visiting tourist attractions in SNNP State has reportedly been grown by more than double owing to promotional works carried out in connection with the Ethiopian millennium, the state Tourism, Parks and Hotels Agency disclosed.

Agency General Manager Almaz Bayero told WIC that extensive activities have been executed to promote natural and historical tourist sites in the state.

Accordingly, 268,820 tourists visited the historical sites in the state just over the past six months, according to the manager.

Some 14 million birr income has been secured from the services rendered to the tourists during the reported period, Almaz added.

Out of the total number of tourists, some 230,000 are local while the remaining are foreign tourists, it was pointed out.

Although the state is endowed with natural and historical tourist attractions, it has not drawn much benefit from the sector, she further indicated.

Currently, however, changes are being observed following awareness raising education provided to the public regarding the importance of giving care to tourist attractions.
