Sinking of 11 mln birr worth deep water wells underway in Mekelle town

Mekelle, May 13 (WIC) - The construction of some six deep water wells have been underway in Mekelle town of Tigray State with an outlay of 11 million birr, according to Office of the town Water and Sewerage Service.

Office Head Gidena Abebe told WIC that the sinking of some six water wells is being carried out so as to address the acute potable water shortage in the town.

Upon completion by the end of the budget year, the execution of the water projects would raise the potable water coverage in the town from 51 to 78 percent, the head added.

Preparations have also been finalized to launch the execution of 20 additional deep water wells at a cost of 40 million birr loan from World Bank as well as 10 million birr budget of the office in the coming five years, he further indicated.
