Hawassa, May 13, 2008 (WIC) - More than 51,000 students have been pursuing regular and basic alternative education in Silte Zone of the SNNP State since the past nine months, according to zonal Education Department.
Department Head, Muhamud Mohammed, told WIC today that the number of students enrolled in eight woredas of the zone during the reported period exceeds that of same period last year by 28, 857 students.
The head attributed the growth to the advocacy works carried out to make the public send their children to school.
As a result, the primary education coverage of the zone has reached 100 percent, he said, adding that the efforts of the government and the public towards ensuring the quality of education are encouraging.
In addition, the enrolment of female students in the zone has jumped over 50 percent this academic year, Muhamud indicated further adding that the teacher-student and student-text book ratios are 1 to 65 and 1 to 1 respectively.
