Addis Ababa, May 12, 2008 (WIC) –
The South Ethiopia Peoples' Democratic Movement (SEPDM)
disclosed that it has registered a leap forward in all
development sectors during the past 15 years.
SEPDM Political Affairs Head and Executive Committee Member, Alemayehu Assefa, told WIC that the Movement has ensured the rights of nations and nationalities in the state through the efforts made during the reported period.
Over 56 nations and nationalities in the state remained under serious repressions during the Monarchical and military regimes prior to the victory of May 20, he recalled and added that all are now represented in the council apart from using their own languages and cultures.
High economic growth has been achieved in the state under the agricultural-led policy during the past five years as farmers in the state managed to substantially raise their income, the head stated.
Besides, wide-ranging activities have been carried out towards expanding infrastructural development and health and educational institutions, he added.
The head who revealed the presence of gaps in good governance stated that improvements have been witnessed during the past two years following the implementation of rural and urban good governance packages.
He finally noted that preparations are underway to celebrate 15th founding anniversary of SEPDM/EPRDF together with May 20 so as to commemorate gains of democracy and good governance.
