Oromia State creates over 635,000 jobs in nine months

Addis Ababa, May 9 (WIC) - More than 635,000 youth in Oromia State engaged in various sectors during the past nine months, according to the state Youth and Sports Affairs Bureau.

Bureau Youth Capacity Building and Project Department Head, Chalchisa Tolosa, told WIC that the youth have secured jobs in governmental and non-governmental organizations as well as private institutions, among others.

Accordingly, some 454,342 youth in rural areas have engaged in petty businesses, construction works, brick production, among others, the head elaborated.

The remaining 185,313 youth in urban areas secured jobs in micro and small-scale enterprises, private institutions of investors, governmental organizations and by their own efforts, Chalchisa added.

The state envisages creating job opportunities to half a million youth in the state during the budget year, the head further indicated.

The provision of 150 million birr revolving fund by the state government and the successive economic growth being registered in the country contributed to the creation of the new jobs created during the reported period, it was pointed out.
