Addis Ababa, May 6, 2008 (WIC) -
The Federal Inland Revenue Authority (FIRA) disclosed
that it has collected over 5.9 billion birr revenue over
the past nine months.
Authority Public Relations Service Head, Abebe Kebede told WIC today that the revenue was collected from direct and indirect tax as well as non-tax sources.
Accordingly, over 2.8 billion birr of the income was garnered from direct tax, over 3.3 billion birr from indirect tax and the remaining over 3.4 million birr from non-tax items, the head elaborated.
The tax collected during the reported period exceeds that of same period last year by over 1.5 million birr which is 5.9 percent higher than set target, Abebe indicated.
The head attributed the rise to vibrant business activities as a result of high economic growth, implementation of integrated tax administration system as well as computerized tax collection.
The authority envisages collecting over 7.5 billion birr revenue this budget year, it was pointed out.
