SEPDM pledges to further enhance peace, democracy and good governance endeavors

Addis Ababa, May 5 (WIC) – The South Ethiopia People's Democratic Movement (SEPDM) said it would further consolidate the building up of democracy, peace and good governance underway in the country.

SEPDM Executive Committee member Dr. Kassu Ilala made the remark at the 15th founding anniversary of the Movement celebrated at the Lideta sub-city today.

SEPDM was established after the downfall of Derge regime to solve the political and socio-economic problems of residents of SNNP State through Revolutionary Democracy route, Dr. Kassu said, adding thus it has made possible over 56 nations and nationalities in the state live with mutual respect and tolerance as well as assume political power.

Accordingly, it has managed to raise the number of its supporters from 126,000 to 1.2 million through extensive activities it has carried out to realize its objectives, he indicated.

Besides, education and health facilities earlier confined in towns have reportedly been expanded to rural areas as skilled human power is crucial for the development of the country, it was pointed out.

Farmers have succeeded to accumulate wealth in hundreds and millions of birr owing to feasible agricultural strategy as well as conditions facilitated to farmers to sell their produces at fair price.

SEPDM would exert unstinted efforts in years ahead to engage members and supporters of the movement as well as residents of the state together with the people in the country, he indicated.

Similarly, members, supporters and residents of the SEPDM in Kirkos sub-city celebrated the founding anniversary of the movement here at Kebele 09.

SEPDM Executive Committee member, Mukriat Kamil, on the occasion said that the movement has reached at the present level passing through various ups and downs.

The movement organized youth in micro and small–scale enterprises facilitating loan facilities so as to curb unemployment, Mukriat indicated.

Representatives of the Ethiopian Peoples Revolutionary Democratic Front (EPRDF), Amhara National Democratic Movement (ANDM) and Oromo Peoples Democratic Organization (OPDO) at the event expressed their partnership to the movement, it was learnt.
