East Gojjam Zone developing over 26,000 hectares through irrigation

Bahirdar, March 27 (WIC) – Some 26,859 hectares of land is being developed through irrigation in East Gojjam Zone of the Amhara State, the zonal water resources development office said.

Office representative Addisu Ayele told WIC today that over 185,000 farmers have taken part in the irrigation development underway in 18 woredas of the zone.

Out of the close to 27,000 hectares being irrigated, 10,600 hectares is already covered with seed, he added.

The farmers who took part in the irrigation development have been developing marketable produces like spices, onion, backyard and other vegetables, according to the representative.

More than 3.5 million quintals of produce is expected from the land under cultivation since last October, it was learnt.
