Mekelle, March 27 (WIC) - The Dima Apiary Development and Honey Purification Factory in Adigrat town of Tigray State has reportedly bought honey from farmers with 10.5 million birr during the past eight months.
Factory Manager Abraham Disasa told WIC that the factory established to bring about all-round national development in apiary has purchased 300 quintals of honey from farmers and associations to process it.
The factory has disbursed swarms of bee and modern beehives in loan to 249 farmers associations, he said, adding that the loan is payable within the coming three years.
The factory has 100 outlets in Addis Ababa and Mekelle cities, according to the manager.
It has also carried out promotion works in Yemen, Saudi Arabia and the Sudan, he said, adding that samples were sent to Germany and Norway.
The factory has finalized pre-conditions that enable it to secure quality assurance certificate, he pointed out.
Established two years ago under Dejena Endowment with 15 million birr capital, the factory has created casual and permanent jobs to more than 80 people.
