Jewish NGO providing free medical services for low-income residents of cities

Addis Ababa, March 27 (WIC) – The American-based non-governmental organization Jewish Voice Ministries International said it has been providing free medical services for low-income inhabitants of two cities.

Jewish Voice Ministries International President and Chief Executive Officer Dr. Jonathan Bernis told WIC that more than 14,000 residents of Addis Ababa and Gondar would benefit from the services.

He said 6,000 residents of Addis Ababa have received treatment during the past three days. Over 1,000 residents would also become beneficiaries of the services in the coming two days, he added.

Similarly, Jewish Voice Ministries International would provide free medical services for over 7,000 residents of Gondar and 16 million birr was allocated for the purpose, Dr. Bernis said.

Among the services being provided include ophthalmic and dental, surgery as well as children and mothers treatment, according to the president.

The NGO will this year open a permanent medical center in Addis Ababa so as to sustainably offer services to the residents, it was pointed out.

Bright Hope Organization Director, Pastor Dr. Getahun Nesibu, on his part said his organization has been creating conducive situations to various medical teams that provided humanitarian services in the country. Low-income members of the community have this time benefited from the services, he stated.

The 80-member medical team comprises of specialists, doctors, health officers and nurses, it was learnt.
