Mekelle, March 24, 2008 (WIC) - A primary school built with 340,000 birr donated by a Dutch woman in Adi-azmera kebele of Tigray State has gone operational.

Speaking at the inaugural ceremony of the school, Woreda Education Office Head Mulu Hailu said the school built by Elly Vanthul has helped transfer 120 students that used to attend classes under tents.

The head expressed gratitude to the donor for her practical contribution as the school would help the ongoing efforts of providing quality primary education for all citizens.

The school has four fully furnished classrooms, he said, further recalling that the donor had similarly built a school with 300,000 birr in Limat kebele of the woreda last Ethiopian year.

The philanthropist said on the occasion that she was touched on seeing poor children attend classes under tents during her travels to the state.

Vanthul called on the inhabitants to consolidate and expand schools and send their children to school.
