Harrar, March 19, 2008 (WIC) - The Harrar Credit and Savings Institute said it has disbursed more than 5.1 million birr loan to inhabitants engaged in micro and small-scale businesses during the past eight months.
Institute Representative Feleke Borga said today the loan was given to 1,023 individuals organized under associations and groups in towns and rural areas.
Some 2.9 million birr of the loan went to beneficiaries organized under associations and 1.5 million birr to groups and the remaining was provided for low-income civil servants and cross-sections of the society engaged in small businesses, he added.
The majority of the beneficiaries of the loan were engaged in micro and small-scale businesses, according to the representative.
The amount of loan provided in the stated period exceeded that of last year by 1.1 million birr, he said.
According to the representative, the institute provides up to 5,000-birr loan for individuals and 50,000 for associations.
The Harrar Credit and Savings Institute was established in July 2006, it was learnt.
