Ethiopia certified to export honey,honey produces to Europe

Addis Ababa, March 13, 2008 (WIC) -  Ethiopia is certified to export honey and honey produces to Europe, the Ministry of Trade and Industry disclosed.

State Minster of Trade and Industry Tadesse Haile, who recalled that investors were unable to send the produces legally to the continent, said the investors can now export the produces to EU countries.

The State Minster thanked the Netherlands Development Program for its significant cooperation in getting the country certified to export the produces to Europe.

He said the government has given due attention to the sector by distributing modern hives in addition to organizing them under associations.

It is also ready to encourage investors, exporters, producers, raw material suppliers and processors create network, Tadesse stated.

SNV Ethiopia Director with the Netherlands Development Program, Rem Neefjies, said on his part the government of Ethiopia has exerted utmost efforts to open the door to Europe and succeeded in reaping the fruits.

The country managed to get certified after a year-long effort, the director added.
