Natives of Gurage Zone living in towns urged to contribute to development of zone

Addis Ababa, March 1, 2008 (WIC) – Natives of Gurage Zone living in towns should stand alongside the government in order to enhance the development of the zone, the Minister of Works and Urban Development underscored.
Speaking at the Gurage Zone Development and Good Governance Conference held here today, Works and Urban Development Minister Dr Kassu Ilala said natives of the zone are expected to contribute their share to the ongoing development activity in order to consolidate the struggle against poverty. The minister, who pointed out the importance of maintaining good governance to ensure a speedy development, added that the government has been striving to gradually solve the basic problems of the public in the zone. Activities that are of immense use for the growth of the zone have been underway since the past three years, Dr Kassu indicated further pointing out that investors should undertake extensive activities in utilizing the rich resources of the zone to bring about development. Rural areas should also be developed in order to curb the number of youth and children migrating to towns from the zone, the minister noted. SNNP State Deputy Chief Administrator, Tsegaye Mamo, on his part said most of the good governance problems raised by the public have been solved by the government and the state government is also ready to solve good governance and development problems that may be raised by the public.
The natives finally issued five-point declaration pledging to take part in the ongoing development activities in the zone. |
