Foreigners impressed by religious freedom, equality in Ethiopia

Addis Ababa, January 9, 2008 (WIC) - Foreigners and an Ethiopian member of the Diaspora said they have realized that Ethiopia is a country where religious freedom and equality are ensured and citizens live in harmony.
The foreigners and the Ethiopian who participated in the recent celebration of Christmas at Addis Ababa Stadium where nations nationalities worshiped together was an occasion when Ethiopians further reinforced the age-old tradition of living in peace and love.
The Canadian Nathaniel Valk said the celebration clearly showed that freedom of faith is being practiced in the country. According to Valk, what he used to hear about Ethiopia is completely different from the reality he observed.
The Americans Katie Braum and Danielle Sheffield, said this is their first visit to Africa and are satisfied with the hospitality of the public. They further indicated their interest to return to Ethiopia and visit the country’s natural, historical and cultural attractions.
The expatriates said the celebration of the holiday they observed demonstrated the prevalence of freedom of faith.
They further said they have observed various development activities progressing smoothly and pointed out those activities indicate that the government and the public have given due attention to eradicating poverty.
Sister Atnaf Berhanu,who came from Norway, said she has witnessed tremendous changes in the economic sector as she came back home after long years of stay abroad.
Followers of all religions and the general public should contribute their share towards realizing the goals of the ongoing encouraging development activities, she added. |
