Gov't striving to enlist heritages in Diredawa, environs as world heritages

Addis Ababa, January 5 (WIC) – Efforts are underway to enlist heritages in Diredawa and environs as world heritages, according to Deputy Chief Government Whip with the House of Peoples Representatives.

Deputy Chief Whip and Deputy Director of the Millennium Festival National Council, Netsanet Asfaw, told WIC that preparations have been made to enlist the heritages in and around Diredawa town with UNESCO.

Among the heritages expected to get registered by UNESCO is the Legeweda Gudin Feta Cave located 36 kilometers west of Diredawa town, she said.

The cave contains more than 600 ancient paintings from 10,000 to 15,000 years old and which could be considered as heritages of mankind, Netsanet said, stressing that they should get registered as heritages of the world since they are the expressions of ancient mankind.

Therefore the ongoing efforts of promoting the heritages in the cave and enlisting them as heritages of the world would be further enhanced in the celebration of the Ethio-Dire Millennium and the 105th anniversary of Diredawa, Netsanet noted.
