Eight political parties to contest in capital city

Addis Ababa, February 13 (WIC) – Some eight political parties have fielded candidates that contest for seats in the metropolis in the upcoming elections, Addis Ababa election coordinator said.

The election coordinator, Desta Hailemikael, told WIC today that the candidates which run for the local and by-elections in the metropolis have been registered in the various polling stations across the capital city.

The candidates belonged to the Ethiopian Peoples Revolutionary Democracy Front, All Ethiopia National Movement, Ethiopian Democratic Unity Party-Medhin, Oromo Federal Democratic Movement, Oromo National Liberation Party, Oromo National Congress, Tigri Worji and the Ayele Chamiso led Coalition for Unity and Democracy party, he said.

The Ethiopian Peoples Revolutionary Democracy Front fielded candidates to compete at all levels of the administrative ladder while the other political parties mostly eyed seats in the House of Peoples Representatives and the City Council, the coordinator added.

Ethiopian Democratic Unity Party-Medhin and the Oromo Federal Democratic Movement have fielded candidates that run for the City Council, he further stated, adding that none of the parties have however fielded candidates for kebele councils, with the exception of the Ethiopian Peoples Revolutionary Democracy Front.

The coordinator finally reminded political parties to get their candidates registered within the coming two days.
