EUDP-Medhin to contest in five states in upcoming elections

Addis Ababa, February 12 (WIC) – The Ethiopian Democratic Unity Party (EUDP-Medhin) said it will contest in five states in the upcoming elections.

EUDP-Medhin Chairman Lidetu Ayalew told WIC that it is currently fielding candidates in Amhara, Oromia, Harrari and SNNP states and Addis Ababa administration to contest in local and by-elections.

The party will also try to field candidates in two more states before the end of candidates’ registration deadline, he said, adding that EUDP- Medhin is in fact participating in the election to demonstrate its commitment to the principles of election despite the limited number of its candidates that run in the elections.

The chairman further commended the public for getting registered to vote in the upcoming elections.

Lidetu however said his party would not field contestants for seats in the Addis Ababa City Council as the party had protested against the conduct of election for the council and the National Electoral Board of Ethiopia did not address its complaint.

The chairman who observed that elections driven by sheer emotion do not contribute to the political and democratic process in the country added that EUDP- Medhin will seize the present opportunity to spread it third alternative concept.
