NEBE expects 29 million registered voters

Addis Ababa, February 5, 2008 (WIC) - The number of registered voters is expected to reach 29 million, the National Electoral Board of Ethiopia (NEBE) said.

NEBE Secretariat Head Tesfaye Mengesha told WIC today that 23 million voters were registered by last Friday. The number of voters would definitely grow in the remaining days as voters will collect IDs this week and information on remote areas would be compiled, he added.

Some 89 percent of the eligible voters, out of whom 49 percent are women, have so far been registered, according to Tesfaye.

The head finally urged eligible voters to get registered as the deadline will no more be extended.
