Addis Ababa, April 25, 2008 (WIC) - The Addis Ababa Diocese of the Ethiopian Orthodox Church called upon the faithful to celebrate Easter by providing assistance for the destitute, orphans and elders.
Addis Ababa Diocese Archbishop and Assistant to the Patriarch, His Holiness Abune Samuel, told WIC today the faithful need to celebrate Easter with love and cooperation.
According to him, Sunday schools of more than 44 churches and monasteries under the Addis Ababa Diocese would serve breakfast and luncheon to more than 50,000 beggars on Easter.
The church believes that providing assistance for the destitute should not be confined to holidays, he said adding that it is working jointly with the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs, Elshaday Relief Development Program and regional states on short, medium and long-term plans to permanently support the poor.
