Ministry urges concerned bodies to collaborate, provide quality education for all

Addis Ababa, April 22, 2008 (WIC) - Concerned bodies should devise a common plan and strive to implement the plan so as to provide quality education for all, it was observed.

Speaking at a half-day discussion of stakeholders under the theme “quality education to end exclusion" here today, Gender and Education Equity Department Head with the Ministry of Education, Asmaru Berihun, said the concerned parties need to collaborate closely in order to provide quality education for all.

It is indispensable to Making the disabled and women beneficiaries of education is a must in order to realize the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) for education, she said, adding that schools should also give due attention to these students.

Accordingly, one university is providing education at post-graduate level on special needs, two universities at undergraduate level and four colleges at diploma level so as to raise the number of professionals in the area, the head elaborated.

Participants of the discussion on their part said even if the attention given to disabled persons has improved, expanding educational opportunity and improving its quality is necessary.

Disabled persons should also strive to ensure their rights and also participate in the implementation of the international conventions signed by the country, they further stressed.

The discussion forum was jointly organized by Basic Education Association Ethiopia of Action Aid and Walta Information Center, it was learnt.
