Addis Ababa, April 14, 2008 (WIC) - The Oromo People's Democratic Organization (OPDO) said the woreda and town councils elections conducted yesterday were better than all the previous elections and have testified that democracy is flourishing in the country.OPDO Public Relations Head, Zelalem Jemaneh, told WIC today that voters cast ballots freely to candidates who they believe will promote their interests.
There was massive turn out and voting ended peacefully, he said, adding that this proves the burgeoning of a democratic order in the country.
Tallying and the remaining works are also being conducted legally, according to the head.
He finally called on the public in Oromia State to actively participate in the upcoming kebele and by-elections this Sunday.
