Addis Ababa, April 13, 2008 - Casting of votes for local and parliamentary by-elections in various parts of the country has been conducted peacefully, the Federal Police said.Federal Police Public Relations Head, Commander Demsash Hailu told ENA that the police since the eve of elections have been exerting efforts to ensure peaceful conduct of the election in various parts of the country including Addis Ababa.
The Federal Police in collaboration with Addis Ababa Police and other security forces have ensured dependable peace at polling stations on the day, he said.
Commander Demsash further said that the public have been collaborating with the police in the effort of ensuring peace and security in the election process.
The Federal Police have also been providing the necessary assistances to regional police and security forces.
The head said the police had taken the necessary preparations for peaceful execution of the elections.
Command posts established down to kebele level during the onset of the new Ethiopian millennium also contributed to ensure peaceful conduct of the elections, Commander Demsash said.
According to Commander Demsash, police members were offered relevant training by the National Electoral Board of Ethiopia (NEBE) has in particular given specific training to the police on election.
