EOC says well-known athletes will take part in Beijing Olympics

Addis Ababa, April 4, 2008 (WIC) - Ethiopia will field well-known athletes in Beijing Olympics 2008, the Ethiopia Olympic Committee (EOC) disclosed.

Speaking at a press conference organized at the Chinese Embassy here in connection with Beijing Olympics, Ethiopia Olympic Committee President Dagmawit Girmay said the country will field a team comprising famous athletes and other sport participants.

Chinese Ambassador to Ethiopia Lin Lin earlier expressed his belief that well-known Ethiopian athletes will take part in the games and register good results.

He said his country has been making preparations that enable it to effectively host the Olympic.

The ambassador who recalled the longstanding relationship between China and Ethiopia added that his country has been undertaking activities to further improve the air quality of Beijing. Some 16.9 billion USD has been spent for the preparations of the game, according to Lin Lin.

Preparations that could help ensure the safety and security of athletes have also been made, he said.

More than 20,000 athletes, coaches and officials are expected to participate in the Beijing Olympics, it was learnt.
